Snorkeling for a Funky Girl

Snorkeling is an activity which does not require much of training. If you know swimming, nothing like it but if you don’t still you can enjoy this activity. You are given a diving mask, a snorkel i.e. a breathing tube and swim fins for those who do not know swimming. The next level of snorkeling is scuba diving which requires formal training. In scuba diving you dive deep down into the waters!

It is an unfortunate fact that the only places that come to our mind, are foreign countries like Mauritius and Maldives which boast of being the excellent destinations, when we think of snorkeling. However, our very own country has a plethora of options for this awesome activity. And we are even luckier as there are plenty of options at around 8-10 hours from Pune/Mumbai!

Lakshadweep:

Ditch a trip to Maldives and visit our very own Lakshadweep. The literal meaning of Lakshadweep is 1 lac islands. The clear waters and pristine island will make you fall in love with the place! The place is untouched and you will get to see the sea-creatures like octopus, rays, hawks, crabs etc. here. The wide variety of fishes that you see in the clear waters will leave you awestruck! Kadmat, Bangaram and Agatti islands are known for the snorkeling activity clubs.

Havelock Island Andaman:

A trip to Andaman is incomplete without snorkeling activity at Havelock Island. The waters are so clear that you get to see a wide variety of sea life here. People who have done this activity here have done it many times. Plan a trip to Andaman to explore the underwater world in the beautiful island and see the beauty around!

Netrani Island, Karnataka:

Netrani Island in Karnataka is indeed a paradise. The place is still untouched and the Rocky beach boasts to be the best places for snorkeling. You get to see a wide variety of fishes, corals into the water. So much is the variety of sea creatures here that it is also considered as heaven for snorkeling.

Tarkarli, Maharashtra:

Situated by the Konkan coast, this place is surely a must go place for snorkeling. The absolutely clear waters of Tarkali make it a sought after destination for snorkeling. Goa:

Beaches, parties and nightlife… that’s what defines Goa the best! However, there is more to Goa than cheap beer! There are beaches in Goa which are very nicely secluded and considered best for snorkeling. Beaches in South Goa like Palolem, Sinquerim have great snorkeling teams, and you can watch some amazing underwater life there. There are many other water sports that are famous at the beaches in Goa. So next time when you plan a trip to Goa, do add snorkeling on the list!

Best Time to Visit:

November to March are considered to be the best times for snorkeling.

Just a few tips to enjoy your snorkeling experience to the fullest:

  1. Carry best quality equipment with you. Make sure everything works before you dive into the water.
  2. Never swim alone. Take enough precautions to avoid an accident, but just in case you should not be alone.
  3. Be aware and be mindful of your surroundings, currents of water, etc
  4. Take care of your self. Apply and reapply sun screen during the day.
  5. Do not interact with the underwater life. Be safe
