Fireflies are beetles which have lights in their abdomens. They emit this light to attract the opposite sex and the opposite sex responds by emitting light. This creates a wonderful scene for the onlookers. The Fireflies are best seen in the month of June in the jungles around Pune. When the rain gets heavy in the month of July, they vanish. Rajmachi, Near Lonavala:
Rajmachi is a small village nestled in the beautiful Sahyadris. A guided tour is arranged specifically to watch this scene. The pickup is at Lonavala at 4.00 pm followed by snacks. The tour to Rajmachi starts in the evening where you get to witness the fireflies alongside as you walk from Tungarli dam to the Rajmachi village. This is followed by sumptuous dinner and relaxation.
